Mold Prevention

Mold Prevention

Mold. Every homeowner’s worst nightmare. When mold grows in your home, it not only poses a detriment to your health (hello asthma and weakened immune systems), but it also can cost a lot of money to remove depending on what kind of mold you have and how much it has multiplied. Today, we want to give you a few ways to prevent mold from ever growing.

Reduce Moisture Levels

There are many different species of mold that can grow in your home but they all start with one common denominator: moisture. One of the best steps towards mold prevention that you can take is to prevent excess moisture from collecting in your home. Lower the moisture levels in your bathroom by running a fan during and after showers. Fix any leaks or seepage to prevent the buildup of moisture and prevent the growth of mold. Basically, anywhere moisture can build is where you want to pay attention – be proactive in getting it taken care of and consider waterproofing problem areas.

Clean Clean Clean

Stay on top of cleaning and disinfecting areas that tend to get wet more often like sinks, counters and floors. Wipe down with your disinfectant of choice then make sure it is completely dry with no moisture left.

Proper Ventilation

According to the EPA, cooler air holds less moisture than warmer air, so cooler air and less humidity in your home is a good thing! Good circulation is another key to mold prevention. To increase circulation, open doors between rooms, use your ceiling fans, keep closet doors open, and open windows when the weather permits. Let all that fresh air do its job to help reduce moisture and keep mold away!

Just a few of these steps can save you time and money and ensure the integrity of your home! For more information on mold treatment and prevention go to http://www.thebutlersairquality.com/mold-remediation.
